You Software and Leopard

[Update - October 28 Apple seeded the final version of Leopard to developers late on Friday. We have been doing compatibility testing through the weekend and are aware of a couple of problems that are being investigated. There is a general problem with assigning hot keys in the menus across the product line. We are investigating this and hope to have a fix shortly.]

With the arrival of Leopard (Mac OS 10.5), we thought it would be a good time to update you on the status of compatibility of our products with the new operating system. The short (and sweet) answer is that, in general, everything works pretty well. There are a couple of caveats, so read on to see the specifics for each product.

Note that all of the testing we have been doing has been with developer preview seeds that Apple periodically distributes to third-party developers. To date we (and other independent software companies) have not received the official GM build of Leopard, so there is always the possibility that Apple has made some last minute change that could cause a problem.

If you have encounter any problems using our applications on Leopard, please send us an email. We are committed to addressing any issues that might crop us as quickly as possible.

You Control

You Control works fine in Leopard, with the exception of two modules, Fast User Switching and Calendar. Leopard has completely redone how it handles iCal events and to dos, so much of the Calendar module is being rewritten to support this. Look for an update to You Control to be released this fall with this functionality.

You Control: Desktops

You Control: Desktops works well under Leopard. As you may be aware, Apple has introduced Spaces in Leopard; this is a virtual desktops application that is basically a simpler version of You Control: Desktops. We think most of you will prefer the configurability and power user features that come with You Control: Desktops.

Note that we currently do not support running Spaces and You Control: Desktops simultaneously, so when you run You Control: Desktops, make sure Spaces is disabled first.

You Control: Fonts

Everything appears to work fine in You Control: Fonts on Leopard.

You Control: Tunes

We have seen no compatibility issues with You Control: Tunes in our testing on Leopard.

[Update - October 28 Unrated stars in the menu bar have a white background; we will fix this in an upcoming update.]

You control 1.5.1 / Hot Key Menu under 10.5 crashes constantly!!!!

  2. Dexists Says:

The ratings in the menubar, in you control tubes, are not transparent.. ie they have a solid white background

Thanks for the comments. We have been testing with the final release of Leopard over the weekend and are aware of these two issues. We are working on updates to address these issues.

  4. René Ricard Says:

You Control corner menus only show in Space #1, not into other Spaces.

  5. look Says:

so why did you indicate that it works fine?

    @look:
because when they posted the article on Thursday, October 25th, 2007 at 6:14 pm, it was obviously correct to their knowledge.

Colin’s Sunday October 28th, 2007 12:27 pm comment indicates that You Software had already discovered the two issues raised in the previous four hours of Sunday morning by zxspectrum and Dexists.

    @you:
thanks for being attentive & responsive (on a Sunday!), and for having written such good stuff in the first place that a deeply OS-intimate product like YouControl remains 98% functional immediately after a major OS upgrade. am happy to Beta any trial fixes.

    Greetings,

You Control: Desktops is definitely superior to Spaces. Keep up the good work…& compatibility! ;)

  8. Todd Says:

Desktops seems to lose folders and programs associated to a given desktop ie: you are in work switch to play and then back to work folder and program icons are gone (Found that they have been moved to the original Desktop folder, the only way to get them to display is to move them to a empty folder and then back to your desktop)

What’s with the free serial for iTunes control? The first “little utility” that I would actually pay for!! Exactly what I was looking for, nice work…

  10. Brad Says:

You might want to look at the Network Monitor module. The history graph still works, but it looks like the Throughput/s doesn’t work anymore. It always says 0 B after upgrade to Leopard.

  11. Mark Says:

I tried Time Machine while running Desktops and it resized the open application window then did nothing – Dock and menu bar disappeared – returned to normal status.
The Spaces facility is hopelessly out of date – less functionality than standard Linux KDE for example- you would think Apple would release enhanced not reduced functionality.

  12. Mark Says:

Re the Time Machine problem: it only seems to happen if I am in a Desktop with iPhoto open. Worked fine with this Safari session in a different Desktop (though iPhoto is still open in another Desktop). Odd.

  13. Christoph Says:

You Control freezes after switching to Time Machine, or, more often, just disappears from the menubar after openeing any program
