Hidden Shortcuts in You Control: Desktops
Thursday, July 6th, 2006TIP: Most You Control: Desktops users know you can assign hot key shortcuts to navigate desktops and switch directly to specific desktops, but there are also a few modifier shortcuts that can save you some time for common tasks. Here’s the scoop:
- Option-click on the down-arrow in the menu bar shows the opposite view (Palette or Menu) of what you normally have configured on the Desktops tab.
- Shift-click on the down-arrow in the menu bar moves the down arrow (switches from Right to Left to Hidden back to Right).
- Ctrl-click on the down-arrow in the menu bar displays the additional configuration menu options.
- When the “Selecting Window in another Desktop” is set to “Switches to the Window’s Desktop” (on the Transitions tab), holding down the Shift key while selecting an application will bring the application to the current desktop instead of switching desktops.
- In the Palette View, holding down the Command key while dragging a window will drag all windows for that application (effectively moving an application to a desktop instead of just a particular window).
- Option-clicking when enabling “Show Name when Switching” (on the Transitions tab) turns on a hidden Speech function. When switching desktops, “Vicki” will speak the name of the desktop to which you are switching (in addition to the overlay being displayed).
